Trying out new cuisine is always so much fun!

One of my favorite blogs to visit for original recipes to try is Dreena's Vegan Recipes.
She always seems to have original and very tasty ideas!

One recipe of hers that I have been using over and over again is Dreena’s Frosted B-raw-nies.
It’s a tasty no-bake treat that you can whip up in about 15minutes.
You can view the full recipe by clicking here, but if you stick around I’ll take you through a slightly different version of the recipe.

Dreena's Frosted (slightly adjusted) B-raw-nies!

1)      Gather your ingredients.
           I gathered:
      • ½ cup powdered sugar
      • 1 cup raw almonds
      • 1 cup raw pecans
      • 2 cups (packed) pitted dates
      • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
      • 1.5 tbs vanilla extract
      • 1/4 tsp sea salt
      • 1/2 tsp almond extract

2)     In a food processor add the almonds and pecans and then process until very fine.

3)     Add the dates to the food processor and pulse until the mixture is very crumbly. (I have a rather small food processor so this involved emptying half the processors contents into a mixing bowl so I could process two batches.)

4)     Add the cocoa powder, salt, almond extract, and vanilla and process until the mixture starts to sort of stick together.

5)     Remove the mixture and press into an 8x8 brownie pan

6)     Lightly sprinkle the powdered sugar over the top of your brownies and enjoy your creation!

NOTE: I am not vegan but the powdered sugar I used is so please no angry comments about my recipe modification…

This is a drama free zone :-)

If you are a vegan with out vegan powdered sugar or would just like to try out the original frosting recipe I strongly encourage you to check out the scrumptious frosting recipe that goes with the original version of these brownies.
Following the instructions exactly makes a pretty killer batch of brownies.
My recipe adjustment only occurred because I didn’t have all the ingredients needed to follow her instructions exactly and it’s cold outside so I don’t feel like making a run to the store. :-p
Whichever recipe you follow you should come out with a pretty fantastic treat to share with friends and family.

Sunday I was back in Plantersville, Texas for the last weekend of the 36th Annual Texas Renaissance Festival
The theme for the weekend was “Celtic Christmas”, complete with carolers, hot sugary drinks, and of course Santa!

fa-la-la-la-LA la-la la LA

I had a wonderful time seeing lots of family and friends over Thanksgiving.
I think I'll be at the gym for weeks trying to burn off all the extra calories I've been consuming, but the good food was totally worth it.

Now that Thanksgiving is over,  I've started giving some thought as to what holiday cards my husband and I should send out to our family this year.

Last year we did an e-card,  BUT this year I'm thinking we may go a more traditional route and send out 100% percent real paper cards as not everyone in our family is very computer savvy.

Here is a peak of last years holiday greeting:

I'm hoping this years card will be just as cool... but its going to be sort of hard for us to fit all of that neat music and animation into our snail mail cards.

Well see what the husband and I come up with....

I made this "sausage" for our dog about a year ago.
Since then its become a sort of nest for her to store her toys in.

I took this after our return from her walk this morning...

Sometimes just looking at her makes me want to take a nap too.   :-p

Unpack only once...

Although I’m aware that world cruises are generally something associated with more seasoned members of the population I’ve still been thinking a lot about them lately.

Cruise ships from seven cruise lines will offer world cruises in 2011(Crystal, Cunard, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, P&O, and Silver Sea).

These cruises can be pretty expensive with prices per person ranging from $18,000 all the way up to $90,000 (and sometimes even more).

Despite the hefty price tag, one of the attractions to world cruising is that it allows you to visit many exciting locations without the hassle of changing flights or airport security. You board once, unpack once, and then enjoy the ride.

I’m hoping to one day globe trot on one of these myself.

A world cruise certainly seems like a glamorous and relaxing way to explore the globe.

Monastery Of St. Clare

Fall in Houston is a wonderful thing...

When fall arrives, being outside becomes exponentially more enjoyable as the outside air cools down to the 70s and sometimes even lower.

Last year around this time we took a day trip to the Monastery of St. Clare to see some super adorable miniature horses.

This particular Monastery also happens to be located near some of Texas' best wineries and ice-creameries so we took advantage of the opportunity to check out a few of them as well.

I'm hoping to make a trip there again soon to see a few of the foals that have arrived... I'm sure they're even more cute when they are extra small :-)

Different Breeds of Labradors

Received this in an email  today.
I don't know its original source but I thought I would share.

Have a happy weekend :-)

There is a very strong chance that my husband and I will be heading up to New Orleans soon.
I'm pretty excited...and hope we will actually be able to make it :-)

Keeping my fingers crossed...
